Adductor strain is a common injury among football players. The adductor muscle group contains the three adductor muscles. (adductor longus, magnus and brevis) Adductor longus muscle is a triangular-shaped long muscle. This muscle originates from the superior ramus of the pubic bone and inserted into the middle part of the linea aspera. Adductor longus muscle is the most commonly injured muscle of adductors. Sudden acceleration, jumping, stretching, and kicking the ball are common causes of an adductor injury. Adductor muscle strains can result in missed playing time for football players. We present a 26-year-old man soccer player with pain in the left groin and proximal thigh. The symptoms had started during training and after kicking the ball with left foot (dominant side), he felt an acute pain in the groin region and proximal thigh. Despite the injury, he managed to finish the training. The team physician examined the patient immediately after training. Introduction. The treatment of osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) in young and active patients remains a challenge. The purpose of this study was to determine and compare the clinical and radiographic results of the two different hip resurfacing systems; hemi-resurfacing and metal-on-metal total hip resurfacing in patients with ONFH. Methods. This study was a retrospective review of 20 patients with 30 hips who had ONFH and underwent hemi-resurfacing or total hip resurfacing between November 2002 and February 2006. We mainly performed hemi-resurfacing for early stage ONFH, and total hip resurfacing for advanced stages. Fifteen hips in 11 patients had a hemi-resurfacing component (Conserve, Wright Medical Co) with a mean age at operation of 50 years and an average follow-up of 5.5 years. Fifteen hips in 10 patients had a metal-on-metal total hip resurfacing component (Birmingham hip resurfacing, Smith & Nephew Co.) with a mean age at operation of 40 years and an average follow-up years. Results. The average postoperative Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) hip scores were 86 points in hemi-resurfacing and 96 points in total hip resurfacing. The Exeter Stem (Howmedica, UK) has been in use for over 35 years. Over the years it has undergone several modifications with the most recent being a highly polished, tapered stem in 1986. The manufacturers quote a rate of 0.0006%. In the current literature there are 16 (or less) instances of fractures of the Orthinox stem. We present a case of fracture of an Orthinox Exeter Stem 9 years after insertion. Our patient, BB, presented, aged 62, with symptoms & signs consistent with OA right hip. THR was performed through a lateral approach utilising a trochanteric osteotomy. A size 0 37.5 stem was inserted. Radiographs were very satisfactory. She suffered a post operative DVT/PTE from which she recovered uneventfully. She was independently mobile at 6 month review and was discharged at the 2 year stage pain free. Dorsal root ganglion neurones with dichotomising axons are present in several species and are considered to play a role in referred pain. Clinically, patients with lesions in the lower lumbar discs occasionally complain of pain in the groin. We investigated the existence of dichotomising afferent neurones projecting axons both to the lumbar disc and to the groin skin, using the double fluorescent-labelling technique in rats. We observed neurones labelled with a tracer applied at the ventral portion of the L5-L6 disc and another tracer placed on the groin skin in L1 and L2 dorsal root ganglia. Our results showed that the double-labelled neurones had peripheral axons which dichotomised into both the L5-L6 disc and the groin skin, indicating the convergence of afferent sensory information from the disc and groin skin. Reported rates of dislocation in hip hemiarthroplasty
(HA) for the treatment of intra-capsular fractures of the hip, range
between 1% and 10%. HA is frequently performed through a direct
lateral surgical approach. The aim of this study is to determine
the contribution of the anterior capsule to the stability of a cemented
HA through a direct lateral approach. A total of five whole-body cadavers were thawed at room temperature,
providing ten hip joints for investigation. A Thompson HA was cemented
in place via a direct lateral approach. The cadavers were then positioned
supine, both knee joints were disarticulated and a digital torque
wrench was attached to the femur using a circular frame with three
half pins. The wrench applied an external rotation force with the
hip in extension to allow the hip to dislocate anteriorly. Each
hip was dislocated twice; once with a capsular repair and once without
repairing the capsule. Stratified sampling ensured the order in
which this was performed was alternated for the paired hips on each
cadaver. Comparing peak torque force in hips with the capsule repaired
and peak torque force in hips without repair of the capsule, revealed
a significant difference between the ‘capsule repaired’ (mean 22.96

Acetabular retractors have been implicated in damage to the femoral
and obturator nerves during total hip replacement. The aim of this
study was to determine the anatomical relationship between retractor
placement and these nerves. A posterior approach to the hip was carried out in six fresh
cadaveric half pelves. Large Hohmann acetabular retractors were
placed anteriorly, over the acetabular lip, and inferiorly, and
