Treatment of chronic osteomyelitis (COM) for young patients remains a challenge. Large bone deficiencies secondary to COM can be treated using induced membrane technique (IMT). However, it is unclear which type of bone graft is optimal. The goal of the study was to determine the clinical effectiveness of bone marrow concentrator modified allograft (BMCA) versus bone marrow aspirate mixed allograft (BMAA) for children with COM of long bones. Between January 2013 and December 2017, 26 young patients with COM were enrolled. Different bone grafts were applied to repair bone defects secondary to IMT procedure for infection eradication. Methods
Aims. We conducted a prospective study of a delta ceramic total hip
arthroplasty (THA) to determine the rate of ceramic fracture, to
characterise post-operative noise, and to evaluate the mid-term
results and survivorship. Patients and Methods. Between March 2009 and March 2011, 274 patients (310 hips) underwent
cementless THA using a delta ceramic femoral head and liner. At
each follow-up, clinical and radiological outcomes were recorded.
A Kaplan-Meier analysis was undertaken to estimate survival. Results. Four patients (four hips) died and 18 patients (20 hips) were
lost to follow-up within five years. The remaining 252 patients
(286 hips) were followed for a mean of 66.5 months (60 to 84). There
were 144 men (166 hips) and 108 women (120 hips) with a mean age
of 49.7 years (16 to 83) at surgery. The mean pre-operative Harris
Hip Score of 47.1 points improved to 93.8 points at final follow-up.

Bone mineral density (BMD) around the femoral component has been reported to decrease after total knee replacement (TKR) because of stress shielding. Our aim was to determine whether a cemented mobile-bearing component reduced the post-operative loss of BMD. In our study 28 knees receiving a cemented fixed-bearing TKR were matched with 28 receiving a cemented mobile-bearing TKR. They underwent dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry, pre-operatively and at three weeks and at three, six, 12, 18 and 24 months post-operatively. Aim. Nail patella syndrome (NPS) is a skeletal dysplasia with patellofemoral
dysfunction as a key symptom. We present the first in-depth radiological
evaluation of the knee in a large series of NPS patients and describe
the typical malformations. Patients and Methods. Conventional radiological examination of 95 skeletally mature
patients with NPS was performed. Patellar morphology was classified
according to the Wiberg classification as modified by Baumgartl
and Ficat criteria, and trochlear shape was classified according
to the Dejour classification. Results. Patellar aplasia was present in 4/90 (4%), and patellar hypoplasia
in 77/90 (86%) of patients. The prevailing patellar shapes were
type III, type IV and Hunter’s cap. No patellar shape genotype-phenotype
association could be found. The malformations of the distal femur
comprised shortening of the lateral femoral condyle in 46 out of
84 patients (55%), with a prominent anterior surface of the lateral
femoral condyle in 47 out of 84 patients (56%) and a flat anterior
surface of the medial femoral condyle in 78 out of 85 patients (92%).
