A case of bilateral congenital pseudarthrosis of the olecranon is described. The clinical features, radiological appearance and
The evolution of an idiopathic scoliosis is determined by the site of the primary curve and by the age of onset. It is significant that thoracic primary curves are commonly severe and the early onset of this curve accentuates this feature. Early operation based on
The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) in detecting pathogens from synovial fluid of prosthetic joint infection (PJI) patients. A group of 75 patients who underwent revision knee or hip arthroplasties were enrolled prospectively. Ten patients with primary arthroplasties were included as negative controls. Synovial fluid was collected for mNGS analysis. Optimal thresholds were determined to distinguish pathogens from background microbes. Synovial fluid, tissue, and sonicate fluid were obtained for culture.Aims
Methods
1. Five cases of postero-lateral dislocation of the knee with capsular interposition are described. 2. The mechanism of the injury is considered in the light of the case histories and the findings at operation. 3. The constant clinical findings associated with this injury are described. 4. Open reduction is recommended: with early operation the
1. An example of haematogenous tuberculous lesion of striated muscle is described. 2. Its rarity is stressed and pathological details described. 3. Some of the theories for the refractory reaction of muscle tissue to tuberculous infection are discussed, and experimental work is reviewed. 4. The
Congenital unilateral anterolateral tibial bowing in combination with a bifid ipsilateral great toe is a very rare deformity which resembles the anterolateral tibial bowing that occurs in association with congenital pseudarthrosis of the tibia. However, spontaneous resolution of the deformity without operative treatment and with a continuously straight fibula has been described in all previously reported cases. We report three additional cases and discuss the options for treatment. We suggest that this is a specific entity within the field of anterolateral bowing of the tibia and conclude that it has a much better
It is suggested that there is a group of cases of congenital angulation of tubular bones in which the lesion is a defect of ossification of the primary cartilaginous anlage and in which neurofibromatosis is not implicated. It appears that in this group the
1. Thirteen cases of "pseudorheumatoid" nodules are presented. Eight of these have been observed for three months to eleven years. 2. Histologically the nodules were identical to those that may be associated with rheumatoid arthritis or rheumatic fever. 3. No evidence of systemic disease was found. 4. The etiology is not clear but the
We describe three sisters in a family who presented with a clinical form of osteomesopycnosis which is a rare, benign osteosclerotic bone disorder limited to the axial skeleton. It must be distinguished from other osteosclerotic conditions which carry a worse
Dislocation is the most common indication for further surgery following total hip arthroplasty (THA) when undertaken in patients with a femoral neck fracture. This study aimed to assess the complication rates of THA with dual mobility components (THA-DMC) following a femoral neck fracture and to compare outcomes between THA-DMC, conventional THA, and hemiarthroplasty (HA). We performed a systematic review of all English language articles on THA-DMC published between 2010 and 2019 in the MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane databases. After the application of rigorous inclusion and exclusion criteria, 23 studies dealing with patients who underwent treatment for a femoral neck fracture using THA-DMC were analyzed for the rate of dislocation. Secondary outcomes included reoperation, periprosthetic fracture, infection, mortality, and functional outcome. The review included 7,189 patients with a mean age of 77.8 years (66.4 to 87.6) and a mean follow-up of 30.9 months (9.0 to 68.0).Aims
Methods
1. Three cases are reported of avascular necrosis of the head of the femur after undisplaced fractures of the neck of the femur in childhood. 2. It is suggested that the diaphysial vessels play a more important part in the supply of the epiphysis than has previously been recognised. 3. The
1. The results of fourteen intertrochanteric osteotomies in thirteen patients with painful arthrosis of the hip with Paget's disease of the related bones have been analysed. 2. The findings suggest that osteotomy carried out in this condition before the femoral head collapses has much the same
Seven patients with Ewing's sarcoma of the pelvis were treated by chemotherapy followed by wide resection of the primary tumour. Although good function after operation is possible, survival in this series reflects the poor
1. One hundred babies under the age of one year with untreated structural idiopathic scoliosis have been studied and the outcome assessed. 2. Ninety-two recovered spontaneously. Five developed progressive curves of bad
The aim of this study was to analyze the association between the shape of the distal radius sigmoid notch and triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) foveal tear. Between 2013 and 2018, patients were retrospectively recruited in two different groups. The patient group comprised individuals who underwent arthroscopic transosseous TFCC foveal repair for foveal tear of the wrist. The control group comprised individuals presenting with various diseases around wrist not affecting the TFCC. The study recruited 176 patients (58 patients, 118 controls). The sigmoid notch shape was classified into four types (flat-face, C-, S-, and ski-slope types) and three radiological parameters related to the sigmoid notch (namely, the radius curvature, depth, and version angle) were measured. The association of radiological parameters and sigmoid notch types with the TFCC foveal tear was investigated in univariate and multivariate analyses. Receiver operating characteristic curves were used to estimate a cut-off for any statistically significant variables.Aims

Fracture separation of the capital femoral epiphysis occurring during attempted closed reduction of a traumatic dislocation of the hip is described in two adolescents. Although this complication is extremely rare, the
1. Two cases are reported in which reappearance of an osteochondroma after excision was shown to represent a second independent lesion and not a true recurrence. 2. The significance of this observation is discussed in relation to the pathogenesis and
Tibial dysplasia is a rare congenital deformity which must be distinguished from the more common fibular dysplasia. We have reviewed 24 patients with 35 affected legs. The classification system of Kalamchi and Dawe (1985) was found to be preferable to that of Jones, Barnes and Lloyd-Roberts (1978) as a guide to
Chondrosarcomas arising from soft tissues are rare. Two different varieties are described, myxoid and mesenchymal. We have collected nine cases of the tumour, five myxoid and four mesenchymal, from a review of 513 cases of chondrosarcoma seen between 1904 and 1988. We report the principal clinical, radiographical and histological differences between the two varieties and discuss their surgical treatment and
