The aim of this study was to determine the polyethylene wear rate of Phase 3 Oxford Unicompartmental Knee Replacement bearings and to investigate the effects of resin type and manufacturing process. A total of 63 patients with at least ten years’ follow-up with three bearing types (1900 resin machined, 1050 resin machined, and 1050 resin moulded) were recruited. Patients underwent full weight-bearing model-based radiostereometric analysis to determine the bearing thickness. The linear wear rate was estimated from the change in thickness divided by the duration of implantation. Objectives

Oxidative stress plays a major role in the onset and progression of involutional osteoporosis. However, classical antioxidants fail to restore osteoblast function. Interestingly, the bone anabolism of parathyroid hormone (PTH) has been shown to be associated with its ability to counteract oxidative stress in osteoblasts. The PTH counterpart in bone, which is the PTH-related protein (PTHrP), displays osteogenic actions through both its N-terminal PTH-like region and the C-terminal domain. We examined and compared the antioxidant capacity of PTHrP (1-37) with the C-terminal PTHrP domain comprising the 107-111 epitope (osteostatin) in both murine osteoblastic MC3T3-E1 cells and primary human osteoblastic cells. Objectives

The most prevalent disorders of the shoulder are related to the
muscles of rotator cuff. In order to develop a mechanical method
for the evaluation of the rotator cuff muscles, we created a database
of isometric force generation by the rotator cuff muscles in normal
adult population. We hypothesised the existence of variations according
to age, gender and dominancy of limb. A total of 400 healthy adult volunteers were tested, classified
into groups of 50 men and women for each decade of life. Maximal
isometric force was measured at standardised positions for supraspinatus,
infraspinatus and subscapularis muscles in both shoulders in every
person. Torque of the force was calculated and normalised to lean body
mass. The profiles of mean torque-time curves for each age and gender
group were compared.Objectives
