How long have you been on the board?
I have been on the editorial board for three years.
How did you first get involved with The Bone & Joint Journal?
I started off by completing The Bone & Joint Journal’s Research Methods Course. Following this, I reviewed about two manuscripts submitted to the journal every month. This helped me to create a mental framework for reviewing scientific manuscripts and develop a structure for writing up my own research work. I have always appreciated the time and effort that goes into writing a scientific manuscript, and so tried to provide really comprehensive feedback and suggestions to the authors. I think the journal recognised my passion for academia and invited me onto the board soon after.
What is the best thing about being on the board?
Being on the board has enabled me to work with some of the true hall of famers and international superstars in orthopaedic academia. Some of the board members have written scientific articles that have changed orthopaedic practice worldwide. The board brings these 'allstars' together to ensure that the journal continues to provide the best scientific evidence to guide our clinical practice.
What one piece of advice would you give to others who might like to get more involved with The Bone & Joint Journal?
Complete The Bone & Joint Journal’s Research Methods Course and review one to two papers per month. When reviewing the manuscripts, take your time, have a coffee, maybe a biscuit or two, and enjoy the opportunity to provide constructive feedback and suggestions to the authors.
What song is top of your operating room playlist?
Theatre lists usually incorporate a number of genres to keep the whole team engaged. I still have a weak spot for Juicy from the Notorious BIG!
