How long have you been on the board?

I have been on the board since 2019.

How did you first get involved with The Bone & Joint Journal?

I first got involved with the Journal in 2013 after completing my PhD. I started as a reviewer, and found it fascinating. Reviewing other submissions and getting feedback from the specialty editor really helped me to improve my own academic writing and I started to understand what editors were looking for in a paper.

What is the best thing about being on the board?

When time is at a premium, it is easy to just focus on your subspecialty interest. Being on the editorial board, provides me the opportunity to see what is happening in different specialties. The sub-specialties approach research in different ways and it is always fascinating to learn about new methods and how they might apply to my own. The board meetings always provide robust, entertaining discussion and its gratifying to see that everyone is so passionate about the research that we publish in the journal.

What one piece of advice would you give to others who might like to get more involved with The Bone & Joint Journal?

Get on the BJJ’s Research Methods Course. It’s a great way to understand how to critically appraise papers and is the gateway to becoming a reviewer for the Journal. You won’t regret it!
