The aim of this study was to describe the use of 3D-printed sacral endoprostheses to reconstruct the pelvic ring and re-establish spinopelvic stability after total We retrospectively reviewed 32 patients who underwent TES in our hospital between January 2015 and December 2017. We divided the patients into three groups on the basis of the method of reconstruction: an endoprosthesis group (n = 10); a combined reconstruction group (n = 14), who underwent non-endoprosthetic combined reconstruction, including anterior spinal column fixation; and a spinopelvic fixation (SPF) group (n = 8), who underwent only SPF. Spinopelvic stability, implant survival (IS), intraoperative haemorrhage rate, and perioperative complication rate in the endoprosthesis group were documented and compared with those of other two groups.Aims

We report eight cases of fracture of the cuboid in seven children under four years of age, collected during a two-year period. There was no history of trauma in five of the patients. This fracture is rarely diagnosed and has probably been under-reported. Small children are poor historians and difficult to examine, and early radiographs may be normal or have only subtle abnormalities. Cuboid fracture should be considered in the differential
This paper describes the current views on the pathology of lesions of the tendon of the long head of biceps and their management. Their
Three cases of spinal osteomyelitis due to brucellosis are reported, all in women. Radiological confirmation was delayed for at least three months after the first clinical manifestation, while in one patient a bone scan was positive at an early stage. In two of the three cases the

The aim of this study was to establish the results of isolated exchange of the tibial polyethylene insert in revision total knee arthroplasty (RTKA) in patients with well-fixed femoral or tibial components. We report on a series of RTKAs where only the polyethylene was replaced, and the patients were followed for a mean of 13.2 years (10.0 to 19.1). Our study group consisted of 64 non-infected, grossly stable TKA patients revised over an eight-year period (1998 to 2006). The mean age of the patients at time of revision was 72.2 years (48 to 88). There were 36 females (56%) and 28 males (44%) in the cohort. All patients had received the same cemented, cruciate-retaining patella resurfaced primary TKA. All subsequently underwent an isolated polyethylene insert exchange. The mean time from the primary TKA to RTKA was 9.1 years (2.2 to 16.1).Aims

Fifty-five adults who had sustained a tibial fracture, or a femoral fracture, or both, were subjected to a double-blind randomised study to determine the efficacy of methylprednisolone in treating the fat embolism syndrome. This drug maintained arterial oxygen levels, stabilised or reduced the serum level of free fatty acids, and decreased the risk of the fat embolism syndrome in a statistically significant proportion of patients. Gurd's criteria for the

The dismal outcome of tuberculosis of the spine in the pre-antibiotic era has improved significantly because of the use of potent antitubercular drugs, modern diagnostic aids and advances in surgical management. MRI allows the

In all three cases restoration of peripheral circulation by arterial repair carried out within ten hours of injury succeeded in saving the limb from permanent damage. 3. We report four patients with a form of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome associated with soft-tissue contractures from birth and skin hyperalgesia. In early infancy, these cases were thought to be forms of arthrogryposis multiplex congenita, Larsen's syndrome or Marfan's syndrome. The characteristic triad of signs of Ehlers-Danlos disease gradually appeared from four to six years of age, allowing us to establish the correct
Twenty-one post-irradiation fractures of the femoral neck are reported in seventeen patients who had been treated by radiotherapy for carcinoma of the uterus. The clinical and radiological appearances are described and the
We reviewed 19 adults and 12 children who had been treated for avulsion fractures of the tibial spine. Adult injuries have not previously been reported at length; most were caused by road-traffic accidents, and 68% were associated with other injuries, of which 58% were around the knee. The higher incidence of associated injuries in adults as compared with children, indicates that the injury is the result of greater energy and perhaps a different mechanism. The worse outcome in some adults was due to other associated intra-articular fractures and tears of the medial collateral ligament. Arthroscopy is useful in both
Between 1990 and 1998 we saw 21 children with primary subacute haematogenous osteomyelitis. Pain, swelling and a limp had been present for two to 12 weeks with little functional impairment. Laboratory tests were non-contributory. The lesions were classified radiologically into metaphyseal, diaphyseal, epiphyseal and vertebral. There were 24 sites involved, with most (20) being in the tibia; 17 lesions were in the diaphysis, five in the metaphysis and two in the epiphysis. The
