The purpose of this exploratory study was to investigate if the 24-hour activity profile (i.e. waking activities and sleep) objectively measured using wrist-worn accelerometry of patients scheduled for total hip arthroplasty (THA) improves postoperatively. A total of 51 THA patients with a mean age of 64 years (24 to 87) were recruited from a single public hospital. All patients underwent THA using the same surgical approach with the same prosthesis type. The 24-hour activity profiles were captured using wrist-worn accelerometers preoperatively and at 2, 6, 12, and 26 weeks postoperatively. Patient-reported outcomes (Hip Disability and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (HOOS)) were collected at all timepoints except two weeks postoperatively. Accelerometry data were used to quantify the intensity (sedentary, light, moderate, and vigorous activities) and frequency (bouts) of activity during the day and sleep efficiency. This study reports the mid-term results of total hip arthroplasty (THA) performed using a monoblock acetabular component with a large-diameter head (LDH) ceramic-on-ceramic (CoC) bearing. Of the 276 hips (246 patients) included in this study, 264 (96%) were reviewed at a mean of 67 months (48 to 79) postoperatively. Procedures were performed with a mini posterior approach. The primary aim of this retrospective study was to identify the
incidence of heterotopic ossification (HO) following elective and
trauma elbow arthroplasty. The secondary aim was to determine clinical
outcomes with respect to the formation of heterotopic ossification. A total of 55 total elbow arthroplasties (TEAs) (52 patients)
performed between June 2007 and December 2015 were eligible for
inclusion in the study (29 TEAs for primary elective arthroplasty
and 26 TEAs for trauma). At review, 15 patients (17 total elbow
arthroplasties) had died from unrelated causes. There were 14 men
and 38 women with a mean age of 70 years (42 to 90). The median
clinical follow-up was 3.6 years (1.2 to 6) and the median radiological follow-up

Primary (or spontaneous) and secondary osteonecrosis of the knee
can lead to severe joint degeneration, for which either total or
unicompartmental arthroplasty may be considered. However, there
are limited studies analyzing outcomes of unicompartmental knee arthroplasties
(UKAs) for osteonecrosis involving an isolated compartment of the
knee. The aims of this study were to analyze outcomes of UKAs for
osteonecrosis with specific focus on 1) survivorship free of any
revision or reoperation, 2) risk factors for failure, 3) clinical outcomes,
and 4) complications. A total of 45 patients underwent 46 UKAs for knee osteonecrosis
between 2002 and 2014 at our institution (The Mayo Clinic, Rochester,
Minnesota). Twenty patients (44%) were female; the mean age of the
patients was 66 years, and mean body mass index (BMI) was 31 kg/m2. Of
the 46 UKAs, 44 (96%) were medial UKAs, and 35 (76%) were fixed-bearing
design. Mean mechanical axis postoperatively was 1.5° varus (0°
to 5° varus); 41 UKAs (89%) were performed for primary osteonecrosis.

The objectives of this study were to compare postoperative pain, analgesia requirements, inpatient functional rehabilitation, time to hospital discharge, and complications in patients undergoing conventional jig-based unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) This prospective cohort study included 146 patients with symptomatic medial compartment knee osteoarthritis undergoing primary UKA performed by a single surgeon. This included 73 consecutive patients undergoing conventional jig-based mobile bearing UKA, followed by 73 consecutive patients receiving robotic-arm assisted fixed bearing UKA. All surgical procedures were performed using the standard medial parapatellar approach for UKA, and all patients underwent the same postoperative rehabilitation programme. Postoperative pain scores on the numerical rating scale and opiate analgesia consumption were recorded until discharge.
