Aims. Adductor canal block (ACB) has emerged as an alternative to femoral nerve block (FNB) for analgesia after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The optimal duration of maintenance of the ACB is still questionable. The purpose of this study was to compare the analgesic benefits and physiotherapy (PT) outcomes of single-shot ACB to two different regimens of infusion of the continuous ACB, 24-hour and 48-hour infusion. Patients and Methods. This was a prospective, randomized, unblinded study. A total of 159 American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status I to III patients scheduled for primary TKA were randomized to one of three study groups. Three patients did not complete the study, leaving 156 patients for final analysis. The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence, risk factors, and outcome of venous thromboembolism (VTE) following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction in a nationwide cohort. Patients and Methods. All ACL reconstructions, primary and revision, that were recorded in the Swedish Knee Ligament Register (SKLR) between 2006 and 2013 were linked with data from the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare. The incidence of VTE was determined by entries between the day of surgery until 90 days postoperatively based on diagnosis codes and the prescription of anticoagulants. Risk factors, outcome, and the use of thromboprophylaxis were analyzed. Descriptive statistics with multivariate analysis were used to describe the findings. Results. The cohort consisted of 26 014 primary and revision ACL reconstructions. There were 89 deep venous thromboses (DVTs) and 12 pulmonary emboli (PEs) with a total of 95 VTEs (0.4 %). Six patients with a PE had a simultaneous DVT. The only independent risk factor for VTE was age greater than or equal to 40 years (odds ratio 2.31, 95% confidence interval 1.45 to 3.70; p < 0.001). in patients with symptomatic cam-type femoroacetabular impingement
(FAI) remains controversial. The aim of this study was to examine
the influence of the degree of acetabular coverage on the functional
outcome of patients treated arthroscopically for cam-type FAI. Patients and Methods. Between October 2005 and June 2016, 88 patients (97 hips) underwent
arthroscopic cam resection and concomitant labral debridement and/or
refixation. There were 57 male and 31 female patients with a mean
age of 31.0 years (17.0 to 48.5) and a mean body mass index (BMI)
of 25.4 kg/m. 2. (18.9 to 34.9). We used the Hip2Norm, an
object-oriented-platform program, to perform 3D analysis of hip
joint morphology using 2D anteroposterior pelvic radiographs. The lateral

Aims . This is the first prospective study to report the pre- and post-operative
patient reported outcomes and satisfaction scores following excision
of interdigital Morton’s neuroma. Patients and Methods. Between May 2006 and April 2013, we prospectively studied 99
consecutive patients (111 feet) who were to undergo excision of
a Morton’s neuroma. There were 78 women and 21 men with a mean age
at the time of surgery of 56 years (22 to 78). Patients completed
the Manchester-Oxford Foot Questionnaire (MOXFQ), Short Form-12
(SF-12) and a supplementary patient satisfaction survey three months
pre-operatively and six months post-operatively. Results. Statistically significant differences were found between the
mean pre- and post-operative MOXFQ and the physical component of
the SF-12 scores (p = 0.00081 and p = 0.00092 respectively). Most
patients reported their overall satisfaction as excellent (n = 49,
49.5%) or good (n = 29, 29.3%), but ten patients were dissatisfied,
reporting poor (n = 8, 8.1%) or very poor (n = 2, 2.0%) results.
Only 63 patients (63%) were pain-free at follow-up: in eight patients (8.1%),
the MOXFQ score worsened. There was no statistically significant
difference in outcome between surgery on single or multiple sites.
However, the MOXFQ scores were significantly worse after revision

In total, 101 patients (53 female, 48 male) with a mean age of 50.9 years (19 to 76) with minimally displaced GT fractures were recruited to a prospective observational cohort study. During the first year after injury, patients underwent experiential assessment using the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) score and assessment of associated injuries using MRI performed within two weeks of injury. Ankle fractures are common, mainly affecting adults aged 50 years and over. To aid recovery, some patients are referred to physiotherapy, but referral patterns vary, likely due to uncertainty about the effectiveness of this supervised rehabilitation approach. To inform clinical practice, this study will evaluate the effectiveness of supervised versus self-directed rehabilitation in improving ankle function for older adults with ankle fractures. This will be a multicentre, parallel-group, individually randomized controlled superiority trial. We aim to recruit 344 participants aged 50 years and older with an ankle fracture treated surgically or non-surgically from at least 20 NHS hospitals. Participants will be randomized 1:1 using a web-based service to supervised rehabilitation (four to six one-to-one physiotherapy sessions of tailored advice and prescribed home exercise over three months), or self-directed rehabilitation (provision of advice and exercise materials that participants will use to manage their recovery independently). The primary outcome is participant-reported ankle-related symptoms and function six months after randomization, measured by the Olerud and Molander Ankle Score. Secondary outcomes at two, four, and six months measure health-related quality of life, pain, physical function, self-efficacy, exercise adherence, complications, and resource use. Due to the nature of the interventions, participants and intervention providers will be unblinded to treatment allocation.Aims

The aims of this study were to validate the Forgotten Joint Score-12 (FJS-12) in the postoperative evaluation of periacetabular osteotomy (PAO), identify factors associated with joint awareness after PAO, and determine the FJS-12 threshold for patient-acceptable symptom state (PASS). Data from 686 patients (882 hips) with hip dysplasia who underwent transposition osteotomy of the acetabulum, a type of PAO, between 1998 and 2019 were reviewed. After screening the study included 442 patients (582 hips; response rate, 78%). Patients who completed a study questionnaire consisting of the visual analogue scale (VAS) for pain and satisfaction, FJS-12, and Hip disability and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (HOOS) were included. The primary aim of this study is to quantify and compare outcomes following a dorsally displaced fracture of the distal radius in elderly patients (aged ≥ 65 years) who are managed conservatively versus with surgical fixation (open reduction and internal fixation). Secondary aims are to assess and compare upper limb-specific function, health-related quality of life, wrist pain, complications, grip strength, range of motion, radiological parameters, healthcare resource use, and cost-effectiveness between the groups. A prospectively registered (ISRCTN95922938) randomized parallel group trial will be conducted. Elderly patients meeting the inclusion criteria with a dorsally displaced distal radius facture will be randomized (1:1 ratio) to either conservative management (cast without further manipulation) or surgery. Patients will be assessed at six, 12, 26 weeks, and 52 weeks post intervention. The primary outcome measure and endpoint will be the Patient-Rated Wrist Evaluation (PRWE) at 52 weeks. In addition, the abbreviated version of the Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder and Hand questionnaire (QuickDASH), EuroQol five-dimension questionnaire, pain score (visual analogue scale 1 to 10), complications, grip strength (dynamometer), range of motion (goniometer), and radiological assessments will be undertaken. The aim of this study was to assess the clinical and radiological results of patients who were revised using a custom-made triflange acetabular component (CTAC) for component loosening and pelvic discontinuity (PD) after previous total hip arthroplasty (THA). Data were extracted from a single centre prospective database of patients with PD who were treated with a CTAC. Patients were included if they had a follow-up of two years. The Hip Disability and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (HOOS), modified Oxford Hip Score (mOHS), EurQol EuroQoL five-dimension three-level (EQ-5D-3L) utility, and Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), including visual analogue score (VAS) for pain, were gathered at baseline, and at one- and two-year follow-up. The primary aim was to assess whether robotic total knee arthroplasty (rTKA) had a greater early knee-specific outcome when compared to manual TKA (mTKA). Secondary aims were to assess whether rTKA was associated with improved expectation fulfilment, health-related quality of life (HRQoL), and patient satisfaction when compared to mTKA. A randomized controlled trial was undertaken, and patients were randomized to either mTKA or rTKA. The primary objective was functional improvement at six months. The aim of this study was to evaluate the suitability of the tapered cone stem in total hip arthroplasty (THA) in patients with excessive femoral anteversion and after femoral osteotomy. We included patients who underwent THA using Wagner Cone due to proximal femur anatomical abnormalities between August 2014 and January 2019 at a single institution. We investigated implant survival time using the endpoint of dislocation and revision, and compared the prevalence of prosthetic impingements between the Wagner Cone, a tapered cone stem, and the Taperloc, a tapered wedge stem, through simulation. We also collected Oxford Hip Score (OHS), visual analogue scale (VAS) satisfaction, and VAS pain by postal survey in August 2023 and explored variables associated with those scores.Aims

A core outcome set for adult, open lower limb fracture has been established consisting of ‘Walking, gait and mobility’, ‘Being able to return to life roles’, ‘Pain or discomfort’, and ‘Quality of life’. This study aims to identify which outcome measurement instruments (OMIs) should be recommended to measure each core outcome. A systematic review and quality assessment were conducted to identify existing instruments with evidence of good measurement properties in the open lower limb fracture population for each core outcome. Additionally, shortlisting criteria were developed to identify suitable instruments not validated in the target population.
