The aim of this study was to determine whether total hip arthroplasty (THA) for chronic hip pain due to unilateral primary osteoarthritis (OA) has a beneficial effect on cognitive performance. A prospective cohort study was conducted with 101 patients with end-stage hip OA scheduled for THA (mean age 67.4 years (SD 9.5), 51.5% female (n = 52)). Patients were assessed at baseline as well as after three and months. Primary outcome was cognitive performance measured by d2 Test of Attention at six months, Trail Making Test (TMT), FAS-test, Rivermead Behavioural Memory Test (RBMT; story recall subtest), and Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure Test (ROCF). The aim of this study was to report the medium-term outcomes of impaction bone allograft and fibular grafting for osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) and to define the optimal indications. One method of femoral head preservation following avascular necrosis
(AVN) is core decompression and insertion of a tantalum rod. However,
there may be a high failure rate associated with this procedure.
The purpose of this study was to document the clinical and radiological
outcomes following total hip arthroplasty (THA) subsequent to failed
tantalum rod insertion. A total of 37 failed tantalum rods requiring total hip arthroplasty
were identified from a prospective database. There were 21 hips
in 21 patients (12 men and nine women, mean age 37 years, 18 to
53) meeting minimum two year clinical and radiographic follow-up
whose THAs were carried out between November 2002 and April 2013
(mean time between tantalum rod implantation and conversion to a
THA was 26 months, 6 to 72). These were matched by age and gender
to individuals (12 men, nine women, mean age 40 years, 18 to 58)
receiving THA for AVN without prior tantalum rod insertion.Aims

Total hip replacement (THR) is a very common
procedure undertaken in up to 285 000 Americans each year. Patient
satisfaction with THR is very high, with improvements in general
health, quality of life, and function while at the same time very
cost effective. Although the majority of patients have a high degree
of satisfaction with their THR, 27% experience some discomfort,
and up to 6% experience severe chronic pain. Although it can be
difficult to diagnose the cause of the pain in these patients, this
clinical issue should be approached systematically and thoroughly.
A detailed history and clinical examination can often provide the
correct diagnosis and guide the appropriate selection of investigations, which

the development of the osseous acetabular index (OAI) and cartilaginous
acetabular index (CAI) using MRI. The OAI and CAI were measured
on the coronal MR images of the hip in 81 children with developmental
