Our study describes a posterolateral approach to the distal humerus for open reduction and internal fixation of displaced fractures of the lateral condyle. A total of 20 patients had open reduction and internal fixation over a four-year period using this approach, and at a mean follow-up of 12 months had full union, range of movement and no complications, either clinical or radiological. This approach is well suited to the exact visualisation and accurate reduction of this difficult fracture with minimal dissection of tissues.
1. Congenital vertical talus is described and the criteria for diagnosis are emphasised. The need for its distinction from other forms of convex pes valgus is stressed. 2. The operative technique of Stone for Lloyd-Roberts (1963) is detailed and the results of seven such operations are examined. 3. Departure from the technique in any respect has resulted in an unsatisfactory outcome, whereas stringent observation of the operative details has resulted in uniformly good results in four patients. 4. Certain aspects of diagnosis, differential diagnosis, etiology, pathology and surgical management are discussed, together with a review of some of the relevant literature.
1. The results of Chiari pelvic osteotomy have been examined two to six years after operation in a group of eighteen patients with persisting acetabular dysplasia in the second and third decades. 2. The analysis suggests that for a good clinical result it is essential to create a relationship of the new outer acetabular lip to the original lip so that the CE angle is between 20 and 40 degrees and the roof angle is between 10 degrees below and 20 degrees above the horizontal. 3. This may be achieved by a pelvic osteotomy immediately above the joint capsule, angled 10 degrees upwards and inwards and displaced by 50 per cent of the pelvic thickness. 4. Details of the operative technique using a Smith-Petersen approach are presented.
1. A retrospective clinical and radiological study has been undertaken of forty-six cases of closed Dupuytren fracture-dislocation of the ankle joint in adults. 2. The final results are analysed with reference to the methods of treatment employed. 3. The problems of this injury are discussed referring both to the results of this investigation and to the past literature.
1. A low oblique fracture of the libula is described associated with diastasis of the inferior tibio-fibular joint. 2. Seven cases are presented in which this injury was seen. 3. A method of internal fixation is described. 4. The importance of recognising this injury is stressed.
