Aim. To evaluate the bacterial counts of sonicatied implants in patients with osteoarticular infections. Various studies have demostrated the usefulness of sonication of retrieved implants in order to provide an accurate microbiological diagnosis. Although cutoff values for original sonicate counts have been established, the use of centrifugation may influence these values. Method. A retrospective, single-center study, including sonication fluid samples from implants removed between January 2011 and October 2023, was performed. Patients were diagnosed with implant-associated infection based on the criteria available at the time of diagnosis. Osteoarticular implants were sonicated following the protocol described by Esteban et al. Sonicated fluid was centrifuged for 20 minutes at 3000 x g, and the sediment was resuspended in 5 mL of phosphate buffer solution. Ten µl of the sample were streaked onto each medium for quantitative culture. Bacterial counts exceeding 100,000 CFU/mL were considered as 100,000 CFU/mL for statistical analysis. Results. The study included 457 sonication fluid samples. Of these, 316 samples were from patients with prosthetic joint infection (PJI), with 26.3 % diagnosed with acute PJI and 73.7 % with chronic PJI. Additionally, 141 samples were from patients with osteosynthesis infection. The median CFU/ml in the sonication fluid was 40,000 CFU/mL (IQR 1,000 CFU/mL-100,000 CFU/mL). No statistically significant difference was observed between the different types of implants (prosthesis vs. osteosynthesis, p=0.218). A trend of higher counts was noted for acute PJI compared to chronic PJI (р=0.052). Most infections were monomicrobial, but 16.2% were polymicrobial. Statistically significant higher bacterial counts were observed in polymicrobial infections compared to monomicrobial infections (р<0.005). Among monomicrobial infections, no differences were found between Gram-negative and Gram-positive microorganisms (р=0.416). No differences were also found between joints (knee vs. hip) (p=0.353). Conclusions. Significant variability was observed in the number of colonies detected in all samples, regardless of the type of implant, the number of microorganisms or the species identified. Higher counts were detected in polymicrobial infections, and a trend was also noted for higher counts in acute infections

Aim. This is the first study to directly compare the clinical outcome of debridement, antimicrobials and implant retention (DAIR) with stabilization using new internal fixation after debridement, for patients with Fracture-related Infection (FRI). Method. Consecutive patients with FRI Consensus confirmed FRI had single-stage surgery with tissue sampling, debridement, stabilization, antimicrobial therapy and skin closure. All cases had FRIs which were unhealed at surgery. When existing implants were stable, the implant was retained but loose implants or fractures with poor reduction had implant removal and refixation with new implants. All patients had the same empiric and definitive antibiotics, the same diagnostic criteria and outcome assessment at least one year after surgery. Failure was defined as infection recurrence, reoperation or lack of fracture consolidation at one year. Results. Seventy-one patients were studied (40 DAIRs and 31 new implants, including 10 exchange nails). The two groups were well matched for age, duration of infection, BACH complexity, microbiology, bone involved and need for flap coverage. Ten patients (13.7%) died before the endpoint. Mortality was similar in both groups (DAIR 14.1% vs New Metalware 12.9%; p=0.801) but DAIR of IM nails had a higher mortality at 40% (p=0.011). Sixty-one patients were followed-up for a mean of 3.32 years (1.04-9.43). Infection was eradicated in 23/34 (67.6%) DAIR patients and 24/27 (88.9%) with new metalware (p=0.049). Overall rates of infection-free union were similar in both groups (58.8% vs 77.8%; p=0.117). DAIR of plates had significantly fewer infection-free unions compared to removal and implantation of new plates (DAIR 57.1% vs NM 91.7%; p=0.033). Conclusion. Implantation of new metalware had better eradication of infection and a strong trend towards better union rates. Treating FRI with retained or new metalware had a substantial mortality (13.7%). Choosing DAIR did not reduce this mortality and these patients more often required further surgery to treat residual infection and secure union

Aim. Irrigation and debridement with an irrigation solution are essential components of the surgical management of acute and chronic periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). Nevertheless, there is a lack of agreement regarding the most effective solution to use. The aim of the study was to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of the current literature concerning the efficacy of different irrigation solutions over bacterial biofilm. Method. This study was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analysis extension for Network meta-analysis (PRISMA-NMA) checklist for systematic reviews and meta-analyses. A comprehensive literature search of PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science and Scopus databases from inception to September 1, 2023. We combined terms related to PJI, biofilm and irrigation solutions studied in vitro. We performed a network meta-analysis to analyze which irrigation solution achieved a higher reduction of colony forming units (CFU) after specific exposure times, always with a maximum of five minutes, replicating intraoperative conditions. Effect-size was summarized with logarithmic response ratio (logRR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI). The rank probability for each treatment was calculated using the p-scores. Results. We screened 233 potential sources. Following deduplication, screening and full-text review, four studies with ten irrigation solutions for different duration of exposures were included, always less than five minutes, replicating intraoperative conditions. Solutions were studied over mature biofilms of most frequent bacteria grown over metal, bone cement or polyethylene surfaces. The highest effect was achieved with povidone iodine 10% during 5 minutes (logRR: −12.02; 95% CI: −14.04, −9.99). The best ranked solutions were povidone iodine 10% during five, three and one minute (respective p-scores: 0.977, 0.932, 0.887) and its combination with hydrogen peroxide for 3 minutes (p-score: 0.836). Povidone iodine 0.3% acting for 5 minutes completed the top 5 best ranked solutions in this study (p-score: 0.761). We assumed that there were no inconsistencies in our network because after examining both scenarios, with and without inconsistencies, the results were not significantly different. Conclusions. Our results show that 10% povidone-iodine is the best antiseptic solution when studied in vitro in the context of prosthetic joint infection. However, the included studies did not evaluate the possible cytotoxic effects of these solutions. This should also be taken into account before choosing the most appropriate antiseptic solution

Aim

In Two-Stage Revision, utilizing temporary antibiotic spacers is widely accepted. These spacers are available prefabricated or can be individually moulded intraoperatively. In this study, we analysed the efficacy of prefabricated and individual spacers in infection eradication of periprosthetic joint infection in knee and hip arthroplasties.

Method

All spacers implanted at a tertiary academic center during two-stage exchanges between June 2010 and December 2019 were retrospectively analysed. Among 249 patients, 167 cases (minimum follow-up ≥ 12 months) were included. Commercial spacers contained vancomycin and gentamycin, while individual spacers contained vancomycin alone. Subgroup analysis by manufacturers was conducted using non-parametric methods including Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis tests. Survival analysis utilized Kaplan-Meier curves, and categorical data were analyzed using the Chi² test. Statistical significance was defined as p < 0.05.

Aims

The Bankart and Latarjet procedures are two of the most common surgical techniques to treat anterior shoulder instability with satisfactory clinical and functional outcomes. However, the outcomes in the adolescent population remain unclear, and there is no information regarding the arthroscopic Latarjet in this population. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the outcomes of the arthroscopic Bankart and arthroscopic Latarjet procedures in the management of anterior shoulder instability in adolescents.

Methods

We present a retrospective, matched-pair study of teenagers with anterior glenohumeral instability treated with an arthroscopic Bankart repair (ABR) or an arthroscopic Latarjet (AL) procedure with a minimum two-year follow-up. Preoperative demographic and clinical features, factors associated with dislocation, and complications were collected. Recurrence, defined as dislocation or subluxation, was established as the primary outcome. Clinical and functional outcomes were analyzed using objective (Rowe), and subjective (Western Ontario Shoulder Instability Index (WOSI) and Single Assessment Numeric Evaluation (SANE)) scores. Additionally, the rate of return to sport was assessed.

Introduction. Pedicle screw loosening in posterior instrumentation of thoracolumbar spine occurs up to 60% in osteoporotic patients. These complications may be alleviated using more flexible implant materials and novel designs that could be optimized with reliable computational modeling. This study aimed to develop and validate non-linear homogenized finite element (hFE) simulations to predict pedicle screw toggling. Method. Ten cadaveric vertebral bodies (L1-L5) from two female and three male elderly donors were scanned with high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT, Scanco Medical) and instrumented with pedicle screws made of carbon fiber-reinforced polyether-etherketone (CF/PEEK). Sample-specific 3D-printed guides ensured standardized instrumentation, embedding, and loading procedures. The samples were biomechanically tested to failure in a toggling setup using an electrodynamic testing machine (Acumen, MTS) applying a quasi-static cyclic testing protocol of three ramps with exponentially increasing peak (1, 2 and 4 mm) and constant valley displacements. Implant-bone kinematics were assessed with a stereographic 3D motion tracking camera system (Aramis SRX, GOM). hFE models with non-linear, homogenized bone material properties including a strain-based damage criterion were developed based on intact HR-pQCT and instrumented 3D C-arm scans. The experimental loading conditions were imposed, the maximum load per cycle was calculated and compared to the experimental results. HR-pQCT-based bone volume fraction (BV/TV) around the screws was correlated with the experimental peak forces at each displacement level. Result. The nonlinear hFE models accurately (slope = 1.07, intercept = 0.2 N) and precisely (R. 2. = 0.84) predicted the experimental peak forces at each displacement level. BV/TV alone was a weak predictor (R. 2. <0.31). Conclusion. The hFE models enable fast design iterations aiming to reduce the risk of screw loosening in low-density vertebrae. Improved flexible implant designs are expected to contribute to reduced complication rates in osteoporotic patients

Introduction. Plantar heel pain, or plantar fasciopathy (PF), is a common musculoskeletal complaint, affecting 39% of lower-extremity tendinopathies in general practice. Conservative management is recommended as the first-line treatment, yet many patients continue to experience symptoms even after ten years. There is a significant lack of high-quality evidence for the effectiveness of various treatments, highlighting the need for more research. Minimally invasive surgical options, such as endoscopic plantar fascia release and radiofrequency microtenotomy, have shown promise in reducing pain and improving outcomes. This systematic review aims to evaluate the effectiveness of these minimally invasive surgical treatments compared to non-surgical options in managing PF. Method. The systematic review, registered on PROSPERO (CRD42024490498) and adhering to PRISMA guidelines, searched databases including PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, and others for studies from January 1991 to May 2024. Keywords included plantar fasciitis, plantar fasciopathy, and heel pain. Limited to human trials, the search strategy was refined with an information specialist and found no protocol duplicates. Result. The systematic review identified eight studies involving 495 patients (56.2% women, average age 46.5 years). The studies compared various treatments, including endoscopic plantar fascia release (EPF), mini-scalpel needle (MSN) treatment, ultrasound-guided pulsed radiofrequency (UG-PRF), and needle electrolysis (NE), to non-surgical interventions and corticosteroid injections (CSI). Primary outcomes focused on pain reduction, with some needle treatments showing superior results (between-group diffence). No severe adverse events were reported. Conclusion. In conclusion, plantar fasciopathy (PF) remains a prevalent and challenging condition, that can be resistant to conservative treatments. This systematic review highlights the potential of minimally invasive surgical options, such as endoscopic plantar fascia release and needle treatments, in reducing pain and improving functional outcomes. Despite some needle treatments showing superior results, the overall lack of high-quality evidence underscores the need for further research to establish the most effective management strategies for PF

Aims

The incidence of limb fractures in patients living with HIV (PLWH) is increasing. However, due to their immunodeficiency status, the operation and rehabilitation of these patients present unique challenges. Currently, it is urgent to establish a standardized perioperative rehabilitation plan based on the concept of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS). This study aimed to validate the effectiveness of ERAS in the perioperative period of PLWH with limb fractures.

Methods

A total of 120 PLWH with limb fractures, between January 2015 and December 2023, were included in this study. We established a multidisciplinary team to design and implement a standardized ERAS protocol. The demographic, surgical, clinical, and follow-up information of the patients were collected and analyzed retrospectively.

Aims. Distal femoral osteotomies (DFOs) are commonly used for the correction of valgus deformities and lateral compartment osteoarthritis. However, the impact of a DFO on subsequent total knee arthroplasty (TKA) function remains a subject of debate. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the effect of a unilateral DFO on subsequent TKA function in patients with bilateral TKAs, using the contralateral knee as a self-matched control group. Methods. The inclusion criteria consisted of patients who underwent simultaneous or staged bilateral TKA after prior unilateral DFO between 1972 and 2023. The type of osteotomy performed, osteotomy hardware fixation, implanted TKA components, and revision rates were recorded. Postoperative outcomes including the Forgotten Joint Score-12 (FJS-12), Tegner Activity Scale score, and subjective knee preference were also obtained at final follow-up. Results. A total of 21 patients underwent bilateral TKA following unilateral DFO and were followed for a mean of 31.5 years (SD 11.1; 20.2 to 74.2) after DFO. The mean time from DFO to TKA conversion was 13.1 years (SD 9.7) with 13 (61.9%) of DFO knees converting to TKA more than ten years after DFO. There was no difference in arthroplasty implant systems employed in both the DFO-TKA and TKA-only knees (p > 0.999). At final follow-up, the mean FJS-12 of the DFO-TKA knee was 62.7 (SD 36.6), while for the TKA-only knee it was 65.6 (SD 34.7) (p = 0.328). In all, 80% of patients had no subjective knee preference or preferred their DFO-TKA knee. Three DFO-TKA knees and two TKA-only knees underwent subsequent revision following index arthroplasty at a mean of 12.8 years (SD 6.9) and 8.5 years (SD 3.8), respectively (p > 0.999). Conclusion. In this self-matched study, DFOs did not affect subsequent TKA function as clinical outcomes, subjective knee preference, and revision rates were similar in both the DFO-TKA and TKA-only knees at mean 32-year follow-up. Aims

Lower limb fractures are common in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and represent a significant burden to the existing orthopaedic surgical infrastructure. In high income country (HIC) settings, internal fixation is the standard of care due to its superior outcomes. In LMICs, external fixation is often the surgical treatment of choice due to limited supplies, cost considerations, and its perceived lower complication rate. The aim of this systematic review protocol is identifying differences in rates of infection, nonunion, and malunion of extra-articular femoral and tibial shaft fractures in LMICs treated with either internal or external fixation.

Methods

This systematic review protocol describes a broad search of multiple databases to identify eligible papers. Studies must be published after 2000, include at least five patients, patients must be aged > 16 years or treated as skeletally mature, and the paper must describe a fracture of interest and at least one of our primary outcomes of interest. We did not place restrictions on language or journal. All abstracts and full texts will be screened and extracted by two independent reviewers. Risk of bias and quality of evidence will be analyzed using standardized appraisal tools. A random-effects meta-analysis followed by a subgroup analysis will be performed, given the anticipated heterogeneity among studies, if sufficient data are available.

Aims

The aim of this study was to compare patient-reported outcomes (PROMs) following isolated anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR), with those following ACLR and concomitant meniscal resection or repair.

Methods

We reviewed prospectively collected data from the UK National Ligament Registry for patients who underwent primary ACLR between January 2013 and December 2022. Patients were categorized into five groups: isolated ACLR, ACLR with medial meniscus (MM) repair, ACLR with MM resection, ACLR with lateral meniscus (LM) repair, and ACLR with LM resection. Linear regression analysis, with isolated ACLR as the reference, was performed after adjusting for confounders.

Aims. Congenital pseudarthrosis of the tibia (CPT) has traditionally been a difficult condition to treat, with high complication rates, including nonunion, refractures, malalignment, and leg length discrepancy. Surgical approaches to treatment of CPT include intramedullary rodding, external fixation, combined intramedullary rodding and external fixation, vascularized fibular graft, and most recently cross-union. The current study aims to compare the outcomes and complication rates of cross-union versus other surgical approaches as an index surgery for the management of CPT. Our hypothesis was that a good index surgery for CPT achieves union and minimizes complications such as refractures and limb length discrepancy. Methods. A multicentre study was conducted involving two institutions in Singapore and China. All patients with CPT who were surgically managed between January 2009 and December 2021 were included. The patients were divided based on their index surgery. Group 1 included patients who underwent excision of hamartoma, cross-union of the tibia and fibula, autogenic iliac bone grafting, and internal fixation for their index surgery. Group 2 included patients who underwent all other surgical procedures for their index surgery, including excision of hamartoma, intramedullary rodding, and/or external fixation, without cross-union of the tibia and fibula. Comparisons of the rates of union, refracture, limb length discrepancy, reoperations, and other complications were performed between the two groups. Results. A total of 36 patients were included in the study. Group 1 comprised 13 patients, while Group 2 comprised 23 patients. The mean age at index surgery was four years (1 to 13). The mean duration of follow-up was 4.85 years (1.75 to 14). All patients in Group 1 achieved bony union at a mean of three months (1.5 to 4), but ten of 23 patients in Group 2 had nonunion of the pseudarthrosis (p = 0.006). None of the patients in Group 1 had a refracture, while seven of 13 patients who achieved bony union in Group 2 suffered a refracture (p = 0.005). None of the patients in Group 1 had a limb length discrepancy of more than 2 cm, while ten of 23 patients in Group 2 have a limb length discrepancy of more than 2 cm (p = 0.006). In Group 1, four of 13 patients had a complication, while 16 of 23 patients in Group 2 had a complication (p = 0.004). Excluding removal of implants, four of 13 patients in Group 1 had to undergo additional surgery, while 18 of 23 patients in Group 2 had to undergo additional surgery following the index surgery (p = 0.011). Conclusion. A good index surgery of excision of hamartoma, cross-union of the tibia and fibula, autogenic iliac bone grafting, and internal fixation for CPT achieves union and minimizes complications such as refractures, limb length discrepancy, and need for additional surgeries

Aims

The mechanism by which synovial fluid (SF) kills bacteria has not yet been elucidated, and a better understanding is needed. We sought to analyze the antimicrobial properties of exogenous copper in human SF against Staphylococcus aureus.

Methods

We performed in vitro growth and viability assays to determine the capability of S. aureus to survive in SF with the addition of 10 µM of copper. We determined the minimum bactericidal concentration of copper (MBC-Cu) and evaluated its sensitivity to killing, comparing wild type (WT) and CopAZB-deficient USA300 strains.

Aims. In 2015, we published the results of our ceramic-on-metal (CoM) total hip arthroplasties (THAs) performed between October 2007 and July 2009 with a mean follow-up of 34 months (23 to 45) and a revision rate of 3.1%. The aim of this paper is to present the longer-term outcomes. Methods. A total of 264 patients were reviewed at a mean of 5.8 years (4.6 to 7.2) and 10.1 years (9.2 to 10.6) to determine revision rate, pain, outcome scores, radiological analysis, and blood ion levels. Those who were unwilling or unable to travel were contacted by telephone. Results. The all-cause revision rate at six years was 3.1% (eight THAs), increasing to 8.8% (18 THAs) at ten years. Of these, there were four and then seven bearing-related revisions at six and ten years, respectively. There was a statistically significant deterioration in the visual analogue scale pain score and Oxford Hip Score (OHS) between six and ten years. There were 18 CoM THAs in 17 patients who had a cobalt or chromium level over 4 ppb and ten CoM THAs in nine patients who had a cobalt or chromium level higher than 7 ppb with a statistically significant increase in chromium levels only between the two timepoints. Overall, 84 stems (39.1%) had significant radiolucent lines at ten years compared to 65 (25.5%) at six years. Conclusion. When compared to the original review, there has been a significant deterioration in pain score, OHS, radiograph appearance, and, most critically, survival has fallen to 91.2%, which does not meet the Orthopaedic Data Evaluation Panel (ODEP) 10 A* 95% threshold. Although this bearing is no longer on the market, 2.5% were bearing-related revisions, which have relevance to the discussion around modular dual-mobility implants that have a similar metal interface

Aims

Though most humeral shaft fractures heal nonoperatively, up to one-third may lead to nonunion with inferior outcomes. The Radiographic Union Score for HUmeral Fractures (RUSHU) was created to identify high-risk patients for nonunion. Our study evaluated the RUSHU’s prognostic performance at six and 12 weeks in discriminating nonunion within a significantly larger cohort than before.

Methods

Our study included 226 nonoperatively treated humeral shaft fractures. We evaluated the interobserver reliability and intraobserver reproducibility of RUSHU scoring using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs). Additionally, we determined the optimal cut-off thresholds for predicting nonunion using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) method.

Aims

Reconstruction after osteoarticular resection of the proximal ulna for tumours is technically difficult and little has been written about the options that are available. We report a series of four patients who underwent radial neck to humeral trochlea transposition arthroplasty following proximal ulnar osteoarticular resection.

Methods

Between July 2020 and July 2022, four patients with primary bone tumours of the ulna underwent radial neck to humeral trochlea transposition arthroplasty. Their mean age was 28 years (12 to 41). The functional outcome was assessed using the range of motion (ROM) of the elbow, rotation of the forearm and stability of the elbow, the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society score (MSTS), and the nine-item abbreviated version of the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand questionnaire (QuickDASH-9) score.

Understanding spinopelvic mechanics is important for the success of total hip arthroplasty (THA). Despite significant advancements in appreciating spinopelvic balance, numerous challenges remain. It is crucial to recognize the individual variability and postoperative changes in spinopelvic parameters and their consequential impact on prosthetic component positioning to mitigate the risk of dislocation and enhance postoperative outcomes. This review describes the integration of advanced diagnostic approaches, enhanced technology, implant considerations, and surgical planning, all tailored to the unique anatomy and biomechanics of each patient. It underscores the importance of accurately predicting postoperative spinopelvic mechanics, selecting suitable imaging techniques, establishing a consistent nomenclature for spinopelvic stiffness, and considering implant-specific strategies. Furthermore, it highlights the potential of artificial intelligence to personalize care.

Aims. We sought to compare functional outcomes and survival between non-smokers, former smokers, and current smokers who underwent anatomical total shoulder arthroplasty (aTSA) in a large cohort of patients. Methods. A retrospective review of a prospectively collected shoulder arthroplasty database was performed between August 1991 and September 2020 to identify patients who underwent primary aTSA. Patients were excluded for preoperative diagnoses of fracture, infection, or oncological disease. Three cohorts were created based on smoking status: non-smokers, former smokers, and current smokers. Outcome scores (American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES), Constant-Murley score, Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI), Simple Shoulder Test (SST), University of California, Los Angeles activity scale (UCLA)), range of motion (external rotation (ER), forward elevation (FE), internal rotation, abduction), and shoulder strength (ER, FE) evaluated at two- to four-year follow-up were compared between cohorts. Evaluation of revision-free survival was performed using the Kaplan-Meier method to final follow-up. Results. We included 428 primary aTSAs with a mean follow-up of 2.4 years (SD 0.6). Our cohort consisted of 251 non-smokers, 138 former smokers who quit a mean 21 years (SD 14) prior to surgery (25 pack-years (SD 22)), and 39 current smokers (23 pack-years (SD 20)). At two- to four-year follow-up, former smokers had less favourable SPADI, SST, and FE strength compared to non-smokers, and current smokers had less favourable SPADI, SST, ASES score, UCLA score, Constant-Murley score, FE, abduction, and ER strength compared to non-smokers. Non-smokers exhibited higher revision-free survival rates at two, five, eight, and ten years postoperatively compared to former smokers and current smokers, who had similar rates. Conclusion. Aims

A review of the literature on elbow replacement found no consistency in the clinical outcome measures which are used to assess the effectiveness of interventions. The aim of this study was to define core outcome domains for elbow replacement.

Methods

A real-time Delphi survey was conducted over four weeks using outcomes from a scoping review of 362 studies on elbow replacement published between January 1990 and February 2021. A total of 583 outcome descriptors were rationalized to 139 unique outcomes. The survey consisted of 139 outcomes divided into 18 domains. The readability and clarity of the survey was determined by an advisory group including a patient representative. Participants were able to view aggregated responses from other participants in real time and to revisit their responses as many times as they wished during the study period. Participants were able to propose additional items for inclusion. A Patient and Public Inclusion and Engagement (PPIE) panel considered the consensus findings.

Aims

Reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) has become the most common type of shoulder arthroplasty used in the UK, and a better understanding of the outcomes after revision of a failed RSA is needed. The aim of this study was to review the current evidence systematically to determine patient-reported outcome measures and the rates of re-revision and complications for patients undergoing revision of a RSA.

Methods

MEDLINE, Embase, CENTRAL, and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews were searched. Studies involving adult patients who underwent revision of a primary RSA for any indication were included. Those who underwent a RSA for failure of a total shoulder arthroplasty or hemiarthroplasty were excluded. Pre- and postoperative shoulder scores were evaluated in a random effects meta-analysis to determine the mean difference. The rates of re-revision and complications were also calculated.
