The August 2024 Trauma Roundup360 looks at: Does topical vancomycin prevent fracture-related infections in closed fractures undergoing open reduction and internal fixation? A randomized controlled trial; Is postoperative splinting advantageous after upper limb fracture surgery?; Does suprapatellar nailing resolve knee pain?; Locking versus non-locking plate fixation in comminuted talar neck fractures: a biomechanical study using cadaveric specimens; Revolutionizing recovery metrics: PROMIS versus SMFA in orthopaedic trauma care; Dorsal hook plating of patella fractures: reliable fixation and satisfactory outcomes; The impact of obesity on subtrochanteric femur fracture outcomes; Low-dose NSAIDs (ketorolac) and cytokine modulation in orthopaedic polytrauma: a detailed analysis.
Fibrinolysis plays a key transition step from haematoma formation to angiogenesis and fracture healing. Low-magnitude high-frequency vibration (LMHFV) is a non-invasive biophysical modality proven to enhance fibrinolytic factors. This study investigates the effect of LMHFV on fibrinolysis in a clinically relevant animal model to accelerate osteoporotic fracture healing. A total of 144 rats were randomized to four groups: sham control; sham and LMHFV; ovariectomized (OVX); and ovariectomized and LMHFV (OVX-VT). Fibrinolytic potential was evaluated by quantifying fibrin, tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) along with healing outcomes at three days, one week, two weeks, and six weeks post-fracture.Aims
Methods
The aim of this study was to review the current evidence and future application for the role of diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound in fracture management. A review of relevant literature was undertaken, including articles indexed in PubMed with keywords “ultrasound” or “sonography” combined with “diagnosis”, “fracture healing”, “impaired fracture healing”, “nonunion”, “microbiology”, and “fracture-related infection”.Objectives

Summary Statement. The present study demonstrates the beneficial effects of strontium (Sr) modified calcium phosphate cement to improve new bone formation in a metaphyseal osteoporotic fracture defects in rats compared to calcium phosphate cement and empty defects. Keywords: strontium, fracture, calcium phosphate, bone formation. Introduction.
Summary. We compare the difference in expression profiles of miRNAs during fracture healing between adult and aged female mice. This study reveals the possibility to improve impaired fracture healing in aged females by regulating key miRNAs at early stage. Introduction.
