We have reviewed 13 operations on 11 patients using curettage and polymethylmethacrylate cement for giant-cell tumour of bone (GCT) to assess the value of radiology in the early detection of recurrence. There were four recurrences, the most specific radiological sign on plain
1. Some physical properties of living and dead bone have been studied in rats; most of these are interrelated and ultimately depend upon the composition of the tissue. 2. Dead bone, remaining within the body, does not take up measurable amounts of mineral from the tissue fluid but retains its original physical properties of

The purpose of this study was to describe the
radiological characteristics of a previously unreported finding: posterior
iliac offset at the sacroiliac joint and to assess its association
with pelvic instability as measured by initial displacement and
early implant loosening or failure.

X-linked hypophosphataemic rickets (XLHR) is a disease of impaired bone mineralization characterized by hypophosphataemia caused by renal phosphate wasting. The main clinical manifestations of the disorder are O-shaped legs, X-shaped legs, delayed growth, and bone pain. XLHR is the most common inheritable form of rickets, with an incidence of 1/20 000 in humans. It accounts for approximately 80% of familial cases of hypophosphataemia and serves as the prototype of defective tubular phosphate (PO43+) transport, due to extra renal defects resulting in unregulated The genome DNA samples of all members in the pedigree were extracted from whole blood. Thirteen patients, aged 7 to 45 years, have been treated for atypical forms of spinal tuberculosis at the Neurological Centres at Benghazi and Lahore. All presented with signs and symptoms of compression of the spinal cord or cauda equina, ranging from paraesthesiae and increasing weakness to paraplegia and loss of sphincter control. None of them showed visible or palpable spinal deformity nor the typical

The primary aim of this study was to establish the cost-effectiveness of the early fixation of displaced midshaft clavicle fractures. A cost analysis was conducted within a randomized controlled trial comparing conservative management (n = 92) Aims
Patients and Methods
We performed a randomised trial on 37 hips (33 patients) with early-stage osteonecrosis (ON). After the initial clinical evaluation, including plain
We have investigated the effect of multisegmental spinal fusion on the long-term functional and radiological outcome in patients with scoliosis. We compared these patients both with those whose spine had not been fused, and with a control group. We studied 68 patients with idiopathic scoliosis (34 operative and 34 non-operative) who had been followed up for a minimum of five years after treatment. They were matched for age (mean 44 years) and Cobb angle (mean 54°) at follow-up. An age- and gender-matched control group of 34 subjects was also recruited. All participants completed a questionnaire to assess spinal function and to grade the severity of back pain using a numerical rating scale.
Avascular necrosis is an iatrogenic complication of the treatment of congenital dislocation of the hip. In order to assess the incidence of this and other complications, we have reviewed a consecutive series of 211 children treated at some stage with the modified Denis Browne splint used in Adelaide. In 173 children treated with this splint alone for 238 subluxed or dislocated hips which were stable when reduced, six hips (2.5%) developed
From 1983 to 1985 we performed 114 primary hip replacements in 108 consecutive osteoarthritic patients using a non-cemented RM isoelastic femoral stem. After a mean follow-up of 8.2 years, ten patients had died, 11 hips had been revised, six patients had been lost to follow-up and two had been excluded due to severe general illnesses. Of 85 arthroplasties (in 79 patients) 14 could not be assessed because of other illness or disability. The 71 remaining were reviewed by questionnaire and
Several techniques have been described to reconstruct a mobile wrist joint after resection of the distal radius for tumour. We reviewed our experience of using an osteo-articular allograft to do this in 17 patients with a mean follow-up of 58.9 months (28 to 119). The mean range of movement at the wrist was 56° flexion, 58° extension, 84° supination and 80° pronation. The mean ISOLS-MSTS score was 86% (63% to 97%) and the mean patient-rated wrist evaluation score was 16.5 (3 to 34). There was no local recurrence or distant metastases. The procedure failed in one patient with a fracture of the graft and an arthrodesis was finally required. Union was achieved at the host-graft interface in all except two cases. No patient reported more than modest non-disabling pain and six reported no pain at all.
In a randomised trial comparing core decompression with conservative treatment we tested the hypothesis that the extent of necrosis at the initial MRI predicts the subsequent risk of collapse of the femoral head. After the initial clinical evaluation, including plain
