Objectives. Injectable Bromelain Solution (IBS) is a modified investigational derivate of the medical grade bromelain-debriding pharmaceutical agent (NexoBrid) studied and approved for a rapid (four-hour single application), eschar-specific, deep
Dead-space management, following dead bone resection, is an important element of successful chronic osteomyelitis treatment. This study compared two different biodegradable antibiotic carriers used for dead-space management, and reviewed clinical and radiological outcomes. All cases underwent single-stage surgery and had a minimum one-year follow-up. A total of 179 patients received preformed calcium sulphate pellets containing 4% tobramycin (Group OT), and 180 patients had an injectable calcium sulphate/nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite ceramic containing gentamicin (Group CG). Outcome measures were infection recurrence, wound leakage, and subsequent fracture involving the treated segment. Bone-void filling was assessed radiologically at a minimum of six months post-surgery.Aims

Acquired heterotopic ossification (HO) is a debilitating disease characterized by abnormal extraskeletal bone formation within soft-tissues after injury. The exact pathogenesis of HO remains unknown. It was reported that Achilles tendon puncture (ATP) mouse model was performed on ten-week-old male C57BL/6J mice. One week after ATP procedure, the mice were given different treatments (e.g. JQ1, shMancr). Achilles tendon samples were collected five weeks after treatment for RNA-seq and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) analysis; the legs were removed for micro-CT imaging and subsequent histology. Human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hBMSCs) were isolated and purified bone marrow collected during surgeries by using density gradient centrifugation. After a series of interventions such as knockdown or overexpressing Aims

High-energy injuries can result in multiple complications, the most prevalent being infection. Vancomycin powder has been used with increasing frequency in orthopaedic trauma given its success in reducing infection following spine surgery. Additionally, large, traumatic injuries require wound coverage and management by dressings such as negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT). NPWT has been shown to decrease the ability of antibiotic cement beads to reduce infection, but its effect on antibiotic powder is not known. The goal of this study was to determine if NPWT reduces the efficacy of topically applied antibiotic powder. Complex musculoskeletal wounds were created in goats and inoculated with a strain of Aims

Periprosthetic joint infection following joint arthroplasty surgery is one of the most feared complications. The key to successful revision surgery for periprosthetic joint infections, regardless of treatment strategy, is a thorough deep debridement. In an attempt to limit antimicrobial and disinfectant use, there has been increasing interest in the use of acetic acid as an adjunct to debridement in the management of periprosthetic joint infections. However, its effectiveness in the eradication of established biofilms following clinically relevant treatment times has not been established. Using an Using a methicillin-sensitive Objectives
Materials and Methods
Calcium sulphate has traditionally been used as a filler of dead space arising during surgery. Various complications have been described following the use of Stimulan bio-absorbable calcium sulphate beads. This study is a prospective observational study to assess the safety profile of these beads when used in revision arthroplasty, comparing the complication rates with those reported in the literature. A total of 755 patients who underwent 456 revision total knee arthroplasties (TKA) and 299 revision total hip arthroplasties (THA), with a mean follow-up of 35 months (0 to 78) were included in the study.Aims
Methods
Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) and vessel loop assisted
closure are two common methods used to assist with the closure of
fasciotomy wounds. This retrospective review compares these two
methods using a primary outcome measurement of skin graft requirement. A retrospective search was performed to identify patients who
underwent fasciotomy at our institution. Patient demographics, location
of the fasciotomy, type of assisted closure, injury characteristics,
need for skin graft, length of stay and evidence of infection within
90 days were recorded.Introduction
Methods
The aim of this experimental study on New Zealand’s white rabbits
was to investigate the transplantation of autogenous growth plate
cells in order to treat the injured growth plate. They were assessed
in terms of measurements of radiological tibial varus and histological
characteristics. An experimental model of plate growth medial partial resection
of the tibia in 14 New Zealand white rabbits was created. During
this surgical procedure the plate growth cells were collected and
cultured. While the second surgery was being performed, the autologous
cultured growth plate cells were grafted at the right tibia, whereas
the left tibia was used as a control group. Objectives

Neurogenic heterotopic ossification (NHO) is
a disorder of aberrant bone formation affecting one in five patients sustaining
a spinal cord injury or traumatic brain injury. Ectopic bone forms
around joints in characteristic patterns, causing pain and limiting
movement especially around the hip and elbow. Clinical sequelae
of neurogenic heterotopic ossification include urinary tract infection,
pressure injuries, pneumonia and poor hygiene, making early diagnosis
and treatment clinically compelling. However, diagnosis remains
difficult with more investigation needed. Our pathophysiological
understanding stems from mechanisms of basic bone formation enhanced
by evidence of systemic influences from circulating humor factors
and perhaps neurological ones. This increasing understanding guides
our implementation of current prophylaxis and treatment including
the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, bisphosphonates,
radiation therapy and surgery and, importantly, should direct future, more
effective ones.
