Aim

To compare minimally invasive (MIS) and standard surgical total knee replacement technique through a prospective, randomised, single-centre, multi-surgeon, controlled trial.

Methods

Between March 2007 and May 2009, 70 patients undergoing 73 total knee replacements were recruited. 31 operations were randomised to the MIS treatment arm, 42 to the standard control arm. Data were collected for mode of anaesthesia, American Society of Anaesthesiologists' score (ASA), surgical time, Postoperative blood loss within surgical drains, length of stay and complications.
