Surgical site infection (SSI) after soft-tissue sarcoma (STS) resection is a serious complication. The purpose of this retrospective study was to investigate the risk factors for SSI after STS resection, and to develop a nomogram that allows patient-specific risk assessment. A total of 547 patients with STS who underwent tumour resection between 2005 and 2021 were divided into a development cohort and a validation cohort. In the development cohort of 402 patients, the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression model was used to screen possible risk factors of SSI. To select risk factors and construct the prediction nomogram, multivariate logistic regression was used. The predictive power of the nomogram was evaluated by receiver operating curve (ROC) analysis in the validation cohort of 145 patients.Aims
Methods
The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of perioperative essential amino acid (EAA) supplementation to prevent rectus femoris muscle atrophy and facilitate early recovery of function after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The study involved 60 patients who underwent unilateral TKA for primary knee osteo-arthritis (OA). This was a double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized control trial with patients randomly allocated to two groups, 30 patients each: the essential amino acid supplementation (9 g daily) and placebo (lactose powder, 9 g daily) groups. Supplementation and placebo were provided from one week before to two weeks after surgery. The area of the rectus femoris muscle were measured by ultrasound imaging one month before surgery and one, two, three, and four weeks postoperatively. The serum albumin level, a visual analogue knee pain score, and mobility were also measured at each time point. The time to recovery of activities of daily living (ADLs) was recorded. Postoperative nutrition and physiotherapy were identical in both groups.Aims
Methods
The aims of this study were to evaluate the long-term outcome
of surgery for bone or soft-tissue metastases from renal cell carcinoma
(RCC) and to determine factors that affect prognosis. Between 1993 and 2014, 58 patients underwent surgery for bone
or soft-tissue metastases from RCC at our hospital. There were 46
men and 12 women with a mean age of 60 years (25 to 84). The mean
follow-up period was 52 months (1 to 257). The surgical sites included
the spine (33 patients), appendicular skeleton (ten patients), pelvis (eight
patients), thorax (four patients), and soft tissue (three patients).

Patients and Methods
We have examined whether the rotatory subluxation of the scaphoid which is seen in patients with advanced Kienböck’s disease is associated with scapholunate advanced collapse (SLAC) wrist. We studied 16 patients (11 men, 5 women) who had stage-IV Kienböck’s disease with chronic subluxation of the scaphoid. All had received conservative treatment. The mean period of affection with Kienböck’s disease was 30 years (14 to 49). No wrist had SLAC. In eight patients, 24 years or more after the onset of the disease, the articular surface of the radius had been remodelled by the subluxed scaphoid with maintenance of the joint space. The wrists of six patients were considered to be excellent, nine good, and one fair according to the clinical criteria of Dornan. Our findings have shown that rotatory subluxation of the scaphoid in Kienböck’s disease is not a cause of SLAC wrist and therefore that scaphotrapezio-trapezoid arthrodesis is not required for the management of these patients.
