In this study we compare survivorship and patient reported outcome measures in robotically assisted versus conventional Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA). This paper investigates the hypothesis that implant survival and PROMS following THAs performed with robotic assistance were not different to outcomes following conventional THAs. Data included all patients undergoing THA for osteoarthritis between 19 April 2016 and 31 December 2020. Analysis of PROMS outcomes was restricted to those who had completed PROMS data preoperatively and at 6 months postoperatively. There were 157,647 procedures, including 3567 robotically assisted procedures, available for comparison of revision rates. 4557 procedures, including 130 robotically assisted procedures, had PROMS data available. The revision rate of primary THA performed with robotic assistance was not statistically different from THA performed by conventional methods (4 year cumulative percent revision 3.1% v 2.7%; HR = 1.05, p=0.67). The Oxford Hip Score, VAS for pain and the EQ-VAS score for overall health showed no statistically significant difference between the groups. The EQ-5D Utility Score showed an improved score (median score 1 v 0.88; OR = 1.58, p=0.007) for the robotically assisted group compared to the conventional group. Robotic assisted THA was not associated with significant improvement in early revision or joint-specific PROMs. The findings may have been biased, in either direction, by unmeasured patient, surgeon, hospital and prosthesis factors. The findings (including the difference in health-related quality of life) may have also been influenced by lack of blinding. Future research should include methods to minimise these biases.

Overall, 89 patients treated between July 2011 and November 2017 who had previously taken part in a routine outcome evaluation up to 12 months postoperatively were sent an additional questionnaire in February 2021. The primary outcome was the Patient-Rated Wrist and Hand Evaluation (PRWHE) total score. 16-item, patient-reported outcome measure for evaluating outcomes
of foot or ankle surgery. The original development of the instrument
identified three domains. This present study examined whether the
three domains could legitimately be summed to provide a single summary
index score. The MOXFQ and Short-Form (SF)-36 were administered to 671 patients
before surgery of the foot or ankle. Data from the three domains
of the MOXFQ (pain, walking/standing and social interaction) were
subjected to higher order factor analysis. Reliability and validity

years. In orthopaedics, little is known about patient preference
regarding pen-and-paper or electronic questionnaires. We aimed to
determine whether patients undergoing total hip (THR) or total knee
replacement (TKR) prefer pen-and-paper or electronic questionnaires
and to identify variables that predict preference for electronic
questionnaires. We asked patients who participated in a multi-centre cohort study
investigating improvement in health-related quality of life (HRQoL)
after THR and TKR using pen-and-paper questionnaires, which mode
of questionnaire they preferred. Patient age, gender, highest completed
level of schooling, body mass index (BMI), comorbidities, indication
for joint replacement and pre-operative HRQoL were compared between
the groups preferring different modes of questionnaire. We then
performed logistic regression analyses to investigate which variables
independently predicted preference of electronic questionnaires.Objectives
Methods
Aims. To map the Oxford Knee Score (OKS) and High Activity Arthroplasty Score (HAAS) items to a common scale, and to investigate the psychometric properties of this new scale for the measurement of knee health. Methods. Patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) data measuring knee health were obtained from the NHS PROMs dataset and Total or Partial Knee Arthroplasty Trial (TOPKAT). Assumptions for common scale modelling were tested. A graded response model (fitted to OKS item responses in the NHS PROMs dataset) was used as an anchor to calibrate paired HAAS items from the TOPKAT dataset. Information curves for the combined OKS-HAAS model were plotted. Bland-Altman analysis was used to compare common scale scores derived from OKS and HAAS items. A conversion table was developed to map between HAAS, OKS, and the common scale. Results. We included 3,329 response sets from 528 patients undergoing knee arthroplasty. These generally met the assumptions of unidimensionality, monotonicity, local independence, and measurement invariance. The HAAS items provided more information than OKS items at high levels of knee health. Combining both instruments resulted in higher test-level information than either instrument alone. The mean error between common scale scores derived from the OKS and HAAS was 0.29 logits. Conclusion. Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) and high tibial osteotomy (HTO) are well-established operative interventions in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis (KOA). However, which of these interventions is more beneficial, to patients with KOA, is not known and remains a topic of much debate. Aims: (i) To determine whether UKA or HTO is more beneficial in the treatment of isolated medial compartment KOA, via an assessment of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs). (ii) To investigate the relationship between PROMs and radiographic parameters of knee joint orientation/alignment. This longitudinal observational study assessed a total of 42 patients that had undergone UKA (n=23) or HTO (n=19) to treat isolated medial compartment KOA. For all the research into arthroplasty, provision of total knee arthroplasty (TKR) services based on gender in the Australian context is yet to be explored. International literature points toward a heavily gender biased provision of TKA services, skewed away from female patients. This research has aimed to assess the current experience of Australian female patients and to explore better assessment techniques that could provide more equitable services. A retrospective cohort analysis has been conducted using pre-op PROMs data, where available, from the Australian National Joint Replacement Registry (AOANJRR), between 7 August 2018 and 31 December 2021, including: EQ VAS Health; Oxford Knee Score; joint pain; and KOOS-12. Data was adjusted for age, ASA score, BMI, primary diagnosis, public vs private hospital, surgeon gender and years of practice (as estimated from years of registry data available). Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) is an effective surgery performed for knee osteoarthritis. Despite this success up to 20% of patients are less than fully satisfied. Rotating platform (RP) bearings have demonstrated significant reduction in rates of wear in laboratory studies but thus far have failed to demonstrate a clinical difference compared to fixed bearing (FB) arthroplasty in patients. This may be due to studies limited by small sample size and single centre design. Additionally, no studies have utilised modern patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) such as PKIP to investigate differences between these bearings. A non-randomised, prospective, multi-centre study was conducted across centres in Australia, United Kingdom and the United States from November 2012 to May 2015. Knee prosthesis included were the RP and FB models of the PFC Sigma Knee (Depuy, Synthes) and the ATTUNE Knee (Depuy, Synthes). Data was collected on pre-arthroplasty interventions, demographics and PROMs. PROMs included were the KOOS, OKS, EQ53DL and PKIP. Participants were followed-up for 2 years. A total of 1,718 patients were recruited across 27 centres. 959 participants underwent a FB TKA, 759 participants underwent a RP TKA. No significant difference was found between RP and FB in change from baseline at 2 years across any parameter in all PROMs investigated at 2 years. Body Mass Index pre-operatively was the biggest indicator of change from baseline at 2 years. Psoas tendinopathy is a potential cause of groin pain after primary total hip arthroplasty (THA). The direct anterior approach (DAA) is becoming increasingly popular as the standard approach for primary THA due to being a muscle preserving technique. It is unclear what the prevalence is for the development of psoas-related pain after DAA THA, how this can influence patient reported outcome, and which risk factors can be identified. This retrospective case control study of prospectively recorded data evaluated 1784 patients who underwent 2087 primary DAA THA procedures between January 2017 and September 2019. Psoas tendinopathy was defined as (1) persistence of groin pain after DAA THA and was triggered by active hip flexion, (2) exclusion of other causes such as dislocation, infection, implant loosening or (occult) fractures, and (3) a positive response to an image-guided injection with xylocaine and steroid into the psoas tendon sheath. Complication-, re-operation rates, and patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) were measured. Forty-three patients (45 hips; 2.2%) were diagnosed with psoas tendinopathy according to the above-described criteria. The mean age of patients who developed psoas tendinopathy was 50.8±11.7 years, which was significantly lower than the mean age of patients without psoas pain (62.4±12.7y; p<0.001). Patients with primary hip osteoarthritis were significantly less likely to develop psoas tendinopathy (14/1207; 1.2%) in comparison to patients with secondary hip osteoarthritis to dysplasia (18/501; 3.6%) (p<0.001) or FAI (12/305; 3.9%) (p<0.001).
