Excision of chronic osteomyelitic bone creates a dead space which must be managed to avoid early recurrence of infection. Systemic antibiotics cannot penetrate this space in high concentrations, so local treatment has become an attractive adjunct to surgery. The aim of this study was to present the mid- to long-term results of local treatment with gentamicin in a bioabsorbable ceramic carrier. A prospective series of 100 patients with Cierny-Mader Types III and IV chronic ostemyelitis, affecting 105 bones, were treated with a single-stage procedure including debridement, deep tissue sampling, local and systemic antibiotics, stabilization, and immediate skin closure. The aim of this study was to inform the epidemiology and treatment of slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE). This was an anonymized comprehensive cohort study, with a nested consented cohort, following the the Idea, Development, Exploration, Assessment, Long-term study (IDEAL) framework. A total of 143 of 144 hospitals treating SCFE in Great Britain participated over an 18-month period. Patients were cross-checked against national administrative data and potential missing patients were identified. Clinician-reported outcomes were collected until two years. The PROximal Fracture of the Humerus Evaluation by Randomisation
(PROFHER) randomised clinical trial compared the operative and non-operative
treatment of adults with a displaced fracture of the proximal humerus
involving the surgical neck. The aim of this study was to determine
the long-term treatment effects beyond the two-year follow-up. Of the original 250 trial participants, 176 consented to extended
follow-up and were sent postal questionnaires at three, four and
five years after recruitment to the trial. The Oxford Shoulder Score
(OSS; the primary outcome), EuroQol 5D-3L (EQ-5D-3L), and any recent
shoulder operations and fracture data were collected. Statistical
and economic analyses, consistent with those of the main trial were
